Highly regarded super bantamweight prospect Antonio Escalante is on the fast track to boxing stardom, blessed with impressive power and an unyielding drive to be the best. Now he just wants his chance to shine.

Born on June 13, 1985, in Juarez, Mexico, Escalante was brought to the United States at the age of nine by his mother, who had high hopes and dreams for a better future for her children.

At the age of 15, Antonio started going to the local boxing gym in El Paso, Texas, but his ambitions didn’t go any further than just having fun in his new hobby. But after working out every day, Escalante soon learned that he had the power and talent to box on a more serious level. And though he was not allowed to fight in the Junior Olympics because of his nationality, he was allowed in the Golden Gloves, where he soon became a two-time champion.

“I knew he would be a world champion one day” said his trainer and manager, Louis Aguilar. “I could see it in his eyes. He has the drive and desire to be the next World Champion. He is a very talented boxer and has knockout power. He is extremely committed to his profession.”

After an impressive 40-3 amateur career, Escalante entered the pro ranks on September 21, 2003, with a first round knockout of Mike Sloboda.

“I was really nervous, I wanted to give a good show and win,” said Escalante, who went on to win his next three fights before dropping a hard-fought decision to fellow unbeaten Jario Sanchez on June 11, 2004.

After this bout, Edwin Rosario was brought in as a co-trainer to add more chemistry to the team, and Antonio got back on a winning streak, adding the Texas super bantamweight championship belt to his waist by stopping Rigoberto Hernandez in a single round on June 16, 2005.

On August 19, Escalante put on a dominating performance against Terrence Roy, knocking him down four times en route to a second round TKO win, and followed up that victory with a third round stoppage of respected veteran Trinidad Mendoza.

On January 27th, 2006, Escalante waged a memorable war with Jose Andres Hernandez, a match many are calling a Fight of The Year candidate. At the end of ten torrid rounds, the 20-year-old Escalante emerged victorious via a unanimous decision and proved that he was truly one of the top young fighters in the world, regardless of weight class.

But he refused to rest on his laurels, outpointing Juan Ruiz over 12 rounds on May 12 to win the NABO super bantamweight championship and then defending his crown on July 7 with a ninth round stoppage of Alex Baba.

Following his second successful NABO title defence, a second round thrashing of Omar Adorno, Escalante was upset in January of 2007 by former world champion Mauricio Pastrana, who stopped him in the eighth round.

Escalante got back in the win column six months later, winning a lopsided eight round decision over Paulino Villalobos on July 27, 2007, and he has since put two more wins in the bank, stopping 20-1-1 Feider Viloria in five rounds on September 7, 2007, and decisioning 43 fight veteran Jose Angel Beranza over ten rounds on February 8, 2008.

Escalante, who aspires to become the first world champion to come out of El Paso, Texas, is extremely committed to his profession, training six days a week and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He is already an El Paso favorite and has been featured in the El Paso Times, on various morning radio shows, and on MaxBoxing.com and NewMexicoBoxing.com.
