Ali was looking to become world heavyweight champion for an unprecedented 4th time but Ali did not manage to even share a round but his extraordinary courage together with Holmes reluctance to inflict injury on his idol, at least enabled him to remain upright throughout the contest, which Angelo Dundee brought to an end after 10 painful rounds. Ali found that like many great champions before him, he too was not immune to the passing of years.
